The Dragon's Gem- Part 8- A secret tribe
"The resistance?" Christine asked, shaking her head. "Doesn't it sound a bit too dramatic?"
Luke shrugged. "I don't know. It wasn't me who picked the name."
Chris let a chuckle escape her lips, when she suddenly remembered the thing she came back for in the first place. "My parents!" she shouted, grabbing Luke's shoulders. "Where are my parents?! I need to save them!"
But the boy cupped her face with one of his hands and smiled. "Don't worry. While you were unconscious some of our warriors sneaked in and managed to help some of the people escape. Your parents and Morgan were with them. I think they're currently in the infirmary from the shock."
Chrissy exhaled in relief. "Thank God." She then turned to Dante and signed at him. "What about Dante? What are you going to do with him?"
"You're making it sound like you're asking if they're going to kill me or not." the dragon said in her head while turning his head to the boy sitting across from his master, puffing smoke in his direction.
The girl rolled her eyes in amusement and let go of Luke's shoulders, who gave her a disappointed look for a split second. "Anyway, are you going to tell me about this Resistance of yours? Not all people here seem to be from Madden."
"Because they're not." The boy said, suddenly becoming very serious. "This is a secret tribe that has been going on for centuries, protecting the city of Madden. My.. My-" he broke off, tears forming in the corners of his eyes, but he didn't cry. "My mother was a part of it.."
Chris held back a gasp. "Was?" She knew Luke's mother wasn't around, but she didn't expect her to be dead.
The boy nodded. "She was the leader. The current leader's sister. And Mariam's partially responsible for my mother's death."
