The Dragon's Gem~ Part 5~ Time for a hero

"My village? Are you sure?" Christine began panicking.

"Very. My ears never lie..." Dante frowned and turned his head to his master. "Do you wish to go and investigate or stay here at safety?"

The girl looked the dragon straight into his stunningly golden eyes. "We need to see whether my family is safe or not. We can't just sit here and do nothing while they might be in danger."

Dante was about to object, but the look on Chris' face made him change his mind. "Okay then. As you wish."

They flew for a few minutes in silence until they finally got to the village. And it seemed fine. Nothing out of the ordinary. Until they got close enough to be able to see the Town Square.

Dante landed next to Christine's house and she ran to the door, where she began pounding on it. But no one answered, so she slammed herself into the door until it opened and she managed to get inside.

"Mother!" She shouted as she began walking around. "Father! Morgan!"

Of course, no answer. The house was completely empty, which made a lot of sense. She really hoped they would be at safety inside the house, but apparently they got dragged out too, judging by the broken pieces of furniture and scratches on the floor and walls.

She ran out, trying to hold back her tears and took a deep breath of the cold night air. Then she turned to Dante and the dragon immediately understood that he had to wait there until he was needed.

Christine walked carefully until she was close enough to be able to get a good look at the town square. And what was there was absolutely awful.
